What makes the psalms great for prayer is that they do not hide the truth from God and they run the whole gamut of our actual feelings. They give honest voice to what is actually going on in our minds and hearts. Ronald Rolheiser
Healthy relationships require honesty. The groan that emanates from a broken heart and the fist that pounds a table in rage can be wordless prayers that unite us to God, who is one with our emotional valleys as well as on our peaks. Tom Stella
The Psalms come to us from a very earthy people, who had a very down-to earth relationship with their God. The spiritual realities of the Psalms are reflected in the human reality of our faces, as well as the physical reality of our world. Every face and every place is an outer reflection of the deep stirring of Spirit - when we dare to look for it.
The photomeditatios in this presentation merge the deep power of our faces with landscapes of Earth places. Phrases from the Psalms are paraphrased in haiku, a form of Japanese contemplative poetry. My hope, as expressed in the insights of Fathers Rolheiser and Stella, is that this book gives honest voice to what is in our hearts to help us build a healthy relationship with our God.
