1. Sense of Awe
Now that we've used and abused the word "awesome" till it's drained of real meaning, it's time to regain our true sense of awe. All creation is crammed with marvel, each of us is a wonder, because our Creator is a marvel and a wonder beyond our ability to comprehend. Every finite thing hints at some infinite meaning. Every human pulsates with divine possibility.
2. Sense of Destiny
We, and every human person we meet, live the times of our lives against an eternal horizon. We all are destined to live forever. We already live in God. God lives in us, right here and right now. When we dare to reach beyond the reach of our everyday senses, we catch glimpses of our heavenly destiny.
3. Sense of Honesty
The honest-to-God truth about ourselves is that we are children of God. But we can't comprehend the greater reality of this fact until we admit the failings that hobble our sensitivities. When, at last, we start to confront our human flaws, we begin to sense our heavenly possibilities.
4. Sense of Balance
It's not, either the physical, or the spiritual. It's both — the physical, and the spiritual. We live in a sensible world, energized and sustained by intangible realities. We are spirit-beings living in flesh and blood. We are called to live the delicate balance between heaven and earth in our lives.
5. Sense of Connection
In a world where everyone and everything seems to be going their separate ways, it's hard to pull ourselves together. Yet we're not as disconnected as we seem. Visionaries from all spiritual traditions assure us that everything is woven together — each of us, and every chunk of creation are connected by the creative love energies of our Creator.
6. Sense of Mission
Our presence on earth is a gift from God to us and all others. Our life's mission is to become who we truly are in the eyes of God.It's not what we accomplish in this life that ultimately matters. What really counts is that, despite all setbacks we encounter, somehow we continue to contribute to God's dream for our lives.
7. Sense of Presence
In our best moments we sense that somehow, deep within us, there is a holy place, a Divine Center, to which we are called. Sensing God's presence is sensing what is always there. We are always in God. God is always with us. Our deepest reality is rooted in God who never leaves us orphaned.
